Olive Oil Core | Proença-a-Velha
Inaugurated in May 2005, the Nucleus of Olive Oil is housed in a former Proença-a-Velha lagar (olive oil mill).
This space seeks to make known the history of one of the most important products in the region, being documented the various techniques of extraction of olive oil.

Installed on the outskirts of the village, its structure is complex due to the integration of various functions and equipments. In addition to its traditional valances, it has two oil mills: one of rodpresses and animal traction, and another, later, of hydraulic presses.
Thanks to the modern equipment installed in 2009, the extraction of olive oil has returned to the site, in a community value of one of the most emblematic products in the region.
Under the guidance of Benjamin Pereira, the work of musealization of this space went through the integration of a Lagar with central screw press and hydraulic traction, thus completing the sequence of traditional technology, whose synthesis, at national level,is addressed in the gallery installed in one of the large palheiras (haystacks) of the complex.
