This Museum, located in the old Convent of S. Francisco, hosts a vast and curious collection of works of art, the result of a donation made in 1966 by María Antonia Tellechea, who fulfilled the will of her late husband, Valeriano Salas, and delivered his collection to the Municipality of Béjar. 

Valeriano Salas had a special interest in art and culture, which led to the creation of the magazine "Geográfica Española" and the foundation, together with other collaborators, of the Spanish Association of Friends of the Castles.  

Later, Valeriano Salas was appointed director of the Spanish Photo Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.  

His passion for travel and other cultures led him to travel to several continents where he acquired pieces that make up his collection of more than 200 pieces of art. 

 

The museum is divided into three spaces: in a first room there are paintings by Flemish Schools and several other European countries, dating from the 16th century to the 19th , but also some pieces of different geographical origins, namely the Oriental Art; we pass to the "Office of the Collector" where there are several pieces in pottery, bronze, ivory, some furniture and even Japanese weapons, that Valeriano Salas was acquiring during his life; in the last room of the Museum, the photographs of the various trips he made around the world are on display.
