The best way to get to know Coimbra is on foot! In this way you can discover all the alleys that carry the "stories" of the city and its students. On a journey of about 5km walk you will get to know all the ex-libris of the city. We prepared a script for you, by the main points of the city.
If you want to travel in a more comfortable way, you have several bus options that cross the emblematic areas of the city.
By plane
The nearest airport to Coimbra, Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, is about 128km away from the city (by car). You can leave the airport by car, train, metro or bus.
By Metro:
To get out of the airport just take the metro (line "violet") and follow until Campanhã Station, or until the bus station of Campo 24 August.

By Train
If you choose to travel by train from Porto, the Campanhã Station will be your starting/finishing point.
To make the trip Porto - Coimbra, the trip lasts about 1:30.
Coimbra train station is about 1.5 km from the city centre.
From Coimbra it is possible to access several emblematic cities to the North, such as Porto and Braga, in little more than 1h.
You can also choose to use the Alfa pendular that makes the route Porto-Lisboa, passing through Coimbra.
In the East Station, in Lisbon, you will find several options for Coimbra.

By Bus
Coimbra receives daily expressed from various points of the country, being considered the "entrance door" in the Central area.
From here it is possible to catch several expresses to Fatima, Nazareth, Alcobaça and Batalha.
It is still possible to continue the journey until Évora arriving to the city at the end of the afternoon.
From Lisbon, your starting point will be the bus station of Sete Rios. The trip lasts about 2:30.
For those who come from Porto, Braga or Guimarães, the trip lasts about 2h. You should be aware that, at the end of school season, some hours are suppressed.
