Creative city of Music of UNESCO
On December 11th (2015) Idanha-a-Nova ranks as City of Music, within the framework of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, becoming the first Portuguese locality to enter the group of creative cities of music.
The musical heritage of Idanha-a-Nova and the unique and innovative experience that music provides in this county were the foundations of the candidacy for the City of Music.
Idanha-a-Nova has an identity intimately linked to music: investing in infrastructures, deeply investigating its traditions, welcomes a rare and diverse number of traditional groups and promotes, throughout the year, an impressive amount of events linked to music, from the most modern electronics to traditional sounds, through the scholarly register, in a context of extraordinarily diversified experience and transversal throughout the territory.
The Boom Festival, the out of place-international Festival of Ancient Songs and the Eco Festival saves the Terron some of the most representative, among the events devoted to music that take place in the county, where the artistic residences constitute another a prominent factor in the plan of cultural intervention associated with music.
