Lighthouse of Peñíscola
Before entering the Artillery Park, you can visit the lighthouse square, which is located beside the castle on the steepest part of the cliff.
The Lighthouse is an octagonal tower that rises 11 meters high and 45 meters above sea level, and is capable of emitting a light signal reaching a distance of 65 km. It was inaugurated in 1899 and inhabited by the lighthouse until 2013.
The access to the Papa Luna stairs is next to the tower.
Currently, this space houses the administrative services, the visitor reception center and the castle's official store.
From the lighthouse square you can enjoy excellent views of the Tamplário Castle, the tower of Papa Luna, built in the 13th century and also the bastion that protects the entrance built in the time of Carlos I, 16th century.
Without forgetting that from the lighthouse square you have a magnificent and dazzling view over the horizon.
Its light currently has a range of about 35 miles away.
The Lighthouse is one of the most photographed spots in the city of Peñíscola: from the entrance to the Castle it is possible to enjoy a wonderful view of the lighthouse with the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop.
