This landmark of the city of Nazaré allows all visitors to comfortably and quickly reach then main square of Nazaré, and enjoy an incredible view from above.

Inaugurated in 1889, it was built to help the population getting to the upper part of the city.

It also helped this main square to grow and develop faster. Its first cars were powered by a steam engine, however, they were replaced by more modern cars and electrical systems that increased the safety of the trips.
